Your files will be stored online but you will browse through them and open them using File Explorer on your computer, exactly like you do now with the files on your hard drive. Anyone working in a business with a server already knows what that experience is like. You browse through the files and folders and click on a file to open it. The online services are starting to work the same way.Windows 10 Tip: OneDrive upload status
The result is that you can store as many files online as you want without using any hard drive space. You can buy a laptop with a smaller solid state drive and still browse through your collection of 50, family photos. Box was the first cloud storage company to introduce this feature to a broad audience when it made Box Drive widely available in June. Dropbox is starting to introduce Dropbox Smart Sync for its business users.
You can browse through the files and folders exactly like any other folders. When you click on one, it is immediately and silently downloaded and opens completely normally.
When you save a file, it is immediately and silently uploaded. There is no delay while files are synced. You have to be online to browse and open Files On-Demand. Files and folders will have one of three icons, shown above:.

That tidbit is buried in the FAQ at the end of this Microsoft article. Box gets around that limitation by building a search box into its taskbar icon. Microsoft expects you go to the OneDrive website for full-text searches.
Keep it in mind when you decide whether to turn this on.I know that evil and dastardly Microsoft is changing things Note that they appear in File Explorer. The upgrade to OneDrive is actually useful as it again allows files to be "shadowed" on local drive but stored on the cloud, thus freeing up space. I hope this heads-up helps alert the developers to an issue. If there is an easy fix then I would appreciate learning about it. I wonder if Microsoft copied that idea from us?
If Explorer now has a status icons column then it will be something completely different to the status icons column in Opus, which predates Explorer's column. It may need us to add support for their new thing, but we tend not to add support for preview versions of Windows as Microsoft have a history of changing things at the last minute and it's a waste of time to chase their tail until things have settled down.
I find I am using explorer more and more as I need access to the status information of the synced files. Give it 6 months and Microsoft will probably kill the feature again. The "situation" with the Status didn't change. The OneDrive developers said repeatedly that they build a much more robust system than the old placeholders.
I personally don't think they will drop support again now. I agree with bkmccarty that it's annoying to switch between Explorer and Dopus. I hope support for the new Status column is planned. Anything to share Dopus developers? They said that about the last three or four complete re-writes of OneDrive and how it works.
Of course. We will add support in a future version. Until the change is finished or nearly finished, we can't say which exact version or exactly when, in case things change, as is our policy in general. As most of IT people I'm now using that drive for almost all my files. I just update my windows to latest fall creator update and liking the 'Files on Demand' feature from OneDrive. Currently as stated above 'Status' only work on windows explorer.
On DO I can ony add 'Availability' Columns which only tell files are on local or online without detailed status such as: permanent offline or downloaded on demand request.
Will DOpus 11 updated for this changes? Or only for DOpus 12?Dropbox uses icon file overlay to show file sync status in File Explorer in Windows OneDrive has moved to using a separate column in File Explorer as shown in the following example. Also, it would make it easier to see the status of files that are e. Long before Dropbox even announced SmartSync, OneDrive had the feature available though it was buggy as hell.
